This past weekend, I turned this...
Into this...
My mom had this piece of furniture in our home while I was growing up and she gave it to me about 2 YEARS AGO! Yikes!! and it has sat and sat in the garage - and in the back of my mind since then - crying out for a makeover.
So this past weekend, I finally refinished it. YaY!!
First, I brought it downstairs to our basement (we are in the process of remodeling)
and wiped off all the dust
(and there was A.Lot - let me tell ya!).
Then I took out the drawer, unscrewed the door, took out the glass pieces and sanded it down a bit so the spray paint would stick.
Then I used lacquer thinner and gently rubbed off any oils that maybe on it.
I masked it all off so I didn't get spray paint in spots I didn't want it.
I decided to leave inside the door unpainted so it would be a little brighter.
I then used Rust-Oleum Colonial Red and sprayed the entire thing.
I let the first coat dry, then gently sanded it again.
I gave her a good final spray and let her dry over night.
The next day I sanded her and shabbied her up a bit.
Then I put her all back together.
I love it in my entry way!!
Total price for this was $19! You can't beat that!
Did I mention I La La love it!
I love Red!!
How do you know I did it without him?
Well if you know my hubby
then you know that painting wood (gasp!) is a total sin

Great find and great price too, it looks great...love the red!
I loved your transformtion. The piece has so much more character now. I liked your post script about your husband thinking that painting wood is un-thinkable. It made me laugh. I have run into many guys who think the same. That thinking must be pre-programmed into the male chromosone.
Stopping by from Transformation Thursday... I LOVE this peace. LOVE red color... Lezlee

Oh, I love it in the red. It went from looking dated country to very classy and fun. The new hardware also looks great!
