Spring Fever! Fabric Flower Frame

Last week I was over at Creation Corner guest posting and I wanted to share my
“Spring Fever” Tutorial just in case you missed it.
I used an oval frame I found at hobby lobby – and sprayed it blue.
(Rust-oleum Spa Blue- to be exact!)
Then while the frame was drying I used the Styrofoam that was in with the frame and cover it with burlap.
I used my hot glue gun and glued around the backside.
Then I made a bright frayed-edge fabric flower. I think this is key – you want a fabric that will “pop!” I started by tearing off a 2-inch piece of fabric – so the edge was frayed. Then I baste-stitch along the edge and gather it all up and circle it around until it is a flower. For a full tutorial you can click here.
I added a fun silver brad to the middle for a little bit “extra!”
I found some jumbo lime green ric-rac that I had and hot glued a piece to the burlap and then hot glued the fabric flower on top of it all.
Then you simply insert the Styrofoam piece into your frame and you are done!
As simple as that!
This is the perfect little addition for Spring -
and boy are we ready for Spring. We have the “fever” so badly around our home!

Making a House Our Home: Part 2

You came back!
I just knew you were dying to see some more of my train wreck house…

Well, let’s get to it! We left off standing in the kitchen – and we will go downstairs.
There are only 4 steps from the kitchen to the family room.

And here we are!

Fancy huh?
I know you are loving the shelving and the paneling on the walls that are falling apart.
and there was SO MUCH brick – even the tile that came about 1/3rd in to the room was a brick looking tile.
And I love how the ceiling is totally different from the kitchen and front room. awesome.

Let’s head into the laundry room and 1/2 bath.

Oh – you need to use the bathroom? Go for it!

Nasty. That is all I really have to say about that.

Wanna see the upstairs? Things are just getting good folks!

Making a House our Home: Part 1

I have a lot of changes going on around my house right now! I am really excited about them and can’t wait to show you what we have been up too. It is pretty much awesome. maybe even double awesome.

However – I got a feeling that in order for you to appreciate all the hard work we are going though -
I am going to need to back track and invite you into our home from the very beginning.

My husband, Spencer and I bought our home in March of 2007. So we have owned it for 4 years.

And we have been remodeling for 4 years.

FOUR LONG – VERY LONG YEARS.

Now when most people say “we’re remodeling” you think – “Oh, I wonder what color of paint they picked?” or “I wonder what color carpet they are having installed.” Right?

When I say “we have been remodeling for 4 years” I am talking BIG REMODEL.

Don’t believe me? That’s okay. Over the next little while I am inviting you over – for a home show of sorts.

Come on in and get comfy – you are in for a wild ride!!

Before we open the door and step inside – let me apologize for the pictures. I took them for personal reasons to document our hard work.  When we started this journey I had no idea I would one day share them with all of you – so – some of them aren’t very good – but it’s all I have so just pretend they are amazing – mmmkay!

Alright – here we go…

WELCOME!

When you open the door you will be in a little entry area. To your right is a wall and to your left is an iron rod gate. After you heave yourself up the extremely large stair you enter the front room.

Don’t be shy – come in and look around!

I am standing in the dinning area to take this photo. (If I knew I would be refinishing items – I would have kept that funky little chandelier. )

See the little pocket door?

Yep! That is the one! It leads into the kitchen.

Teeny. Tiny. I am standing by where the fridge would go to take this picture.
Are you digging the yellow tile? Me either. You can also enter the kitchen straight from the entry way instead of going the long way around like we did.

And that my dears is the first floor! I know you are loving the popcorn ceiling. and the wallpaper. and the baseboard and casing that are painted different colors. and the urine stained carpet – oh! I didn’t mention that? I guess I really didn’t have too because I am sure you could have smelled it. dis-gust-ing!

Are you hungry for more? Come back tomorrow and I will show you the family room.

Easter Banner

After making my peeps sign, I wanted a little something else with some “sparkle” so I got out my Silhouette and cut out an Easter Banner using some glitter paper I found at Roberts.
It is really super simple and was really easy to put together.

I cut out the eggs and letters and just glued it all together and used some different color ribbon to tie it all up.

Sweet, Simple and Sparkly!
