Happy Halloween from Thing 1 and Thing 2

Happy Halloween!!

I had so much fun getting my kiddos ready for Halloween this year and think that their little costumes are perfect for them!! I decided to go with Thing 1 and Thing 2 from The Cat in the Hat.

 The best part is - that I made their costumes all by myself (my mom did give me some really great guidance!) and I am so proud of them! They were really quite easy once I got the hang of it and only took me a couple hours. I used the Simplicity pattern 5874. It was really easy to follow along! 

I changed the pattern a little bit by adding the zipper to the back of the jammies instead of having it in the front - but I somehow managed to turn this messed up pile of red fleece....

...Into these!!

I used my Silhouette and cut out the circle with white flocked heat transfer and then cut out the wording using black heat transfer - then simply ironed it on! Then I picked up some blue hair paint and we were good to go!

I made them just a little bit big so they could wear them over their clothing - I love these costumes because they will keep my little trick-or-treaters super warm! I am totally biased but I think I have the cutest trick or treaters in the whole wide world!

Exciting News!!

Woven Fabric Pumpkin

Last week I was out visiting and shared this tutorial on Lil' Luna - but just in case you missed me here it is!

 

It was pumpkin week, so I made this adorable little woven fabric pumpkin - I love it and love the way it pops!

Let’s get started!

You will need:
A spare frame
Fabric
Raffia
Pumpkin Pattern
Burlap
sewing machine
Liquid Stitch
Hot glue

First: You will need 2 different orange fabrics – make stripes that are about 1 inch wide and 12 inches long.

 

Second: Weave your orange fabrics together. I pinned my first row and then pinned a few here and there to keep it all together.

 

Just keep weaving until your area is the size you would like your pumpkin to be.

Third: Pin your pumpkin pattern to the fabric and sew around it. When you are done sewing, cut out your pumpkin. Since it is all stitched together you can remove all your pins.

 

Fourth: I painted my frame Rustoleum Eden and then Espresso and sanded it down a bit. I then put some bunting and burlap in the frame. I also put some bunting under the pumpkin to give it some dimension.

Fifth: Because I am either really lazy or super brilliant! I used liquid stitch and glued the pumpkin to the burlap – you could even use your hot glue gun!

Sixth: Glue on some cute leaves and a stem – I added some raffia too – mostly because it looks super cute!

And then your done! yay!

I love the cute little frayed boxes on the pumpkin! So darling!

Vegetable Chicken Noodle Soup

One of my very favorite things about the winter time is soup!
I love soup!
I love when it is snowing outside and I am curled up in my nice warm house with a piping hot bowl of soup -
and this one, Vegetable Chicken Noodle Soup is one of my favorites.
I love it because it is sort of like chicken noodle but a lot more colorful and flavorful -
You also can make it in a crock pot, which is what I do and before I know it, it’s dinner time and dinner is ready!

Do you want to know how to make it so you can WOW your family?
Alright! Here we go!

I love my chicken shredded up so I put in the crock pot until I can tear it with a fork – about 2.5 hours.
You can also boil it and tear it apart.

After my Chicken has cooked, I add all my veggie –
Carrots, Celery, Onion, Peas and Corn
- and let it simmer all day in a crock pot.
You can also put it in a big pot and let it boil until it’s soft.

I use the chicken broth from cooking the chicken but I always need more so I pour in a couple cans of chicken broth.

Then about an hour before I am going to serve it, I will add my noodles.
I use bowtie noodles – because they don’t go super soggy.
I hate soggy, mushy noodles.

And then I serve up a big bowl – add salt and pepper to taste and Enjoy!!

Chinese Lanterns for the Babe!

Hello! Hello! How was your weekend? Mine was filled with taking care of the cutest little boy in the world with a nasty flu bug – poor kiddo! I also finished up Halloween Costumes – yay – no last minute stitching here!! I also added one more detail to my daughters room – remember when I posted her room a couple months ago and I said that I would love to have a cute chandelier in there? It would have been darling – IF the ceiling weren’t so low – sad. I just couldn’t put one in there knowing that my hubby and I would be bonking our heads on it so much – sorry folks – no sacrificing cuteness for pain on this one – but her room still bothered me. It just felt like there was something missing…

… the corner above the glider is just so bare… I thought that having a chandelier in there would offset the corner but since that didn’t work out I needed a plan B – and that is when I thought of Chinese Lanterns. (or maybe it’s the fact that we watch Tangled 4 times a day! no kidding. “And now I see the light…”) – I feel like they are going to be the next big thing and have seen them around a few places – so I jumped on line and found a place that sells all sizes and colors for pretty cheap and ordered a few!

The minute the mailman dropped them off – I opened them, assembled them (so easy) and strung them up using clear thumbtacks and clear thread – and I triple, fluffy puffy {heart} them!!

I bought a few different sizes (8”, 10” and 14”) and a few different colors – and even threw in a couple spiral ones too!

Sometimes I go into her room for no other reason but to just look at them -
and the best part – they were WAY cheaper and MUCH easier than a new chandelier!
