Stenciled {Dining Room} Walls

How to Stencil a Kitchen (16) copy

Yesterday I shared with you how I painted my kitchen Cyprus Grass – but I told you I had a few more projects up my sleeve!!
The first is stenciling!

Stenciling is so popular and trendy right now – I little bit ago I posted that I was thinking about maybe wallpapering – but everyone talked me out of it and so I thought that a fun stencil would be the next best thing. I’ll be honest – I have tired to stencil before and both projects ended up major project fails – but how could I go wrong with a large blank wall?? I barrowed the Allover Pattern Stencil: Morrish Trellis from my SIL – and got busy stenciling!! Here are some tips for HOW TO STENCIL A WALL:

I used some spray adhesive – but in the end found it was much easier to just use blue painters tape.
You will see all the tape in a later photo.

For the color – I used the cyprus grass mixed with some white. I still wanted a green color but didn’t want it to clash so using a little bit of white was the perfect solution.

One of the biggest stenciling tips I can give you is – you don’t really need that much paint!
I used a small brush – and barely rolled on any paint.

When I rolled it on – I rolled a couple times over each open area. Since there isn’t a lot of paint on your brush you need to push firmly – and you won’t get hardly any leakage. After each stencil I would immediately pull the stencil off and make sure there was no leakage and if there was any I would use a wet wipe and wipe it off – I didn’t have to it that often but it was nice to fix it right then if I did find a problem.

GO SLOW!!! LET THE PAINT DRY!!! ALWAYS MARK WHERE THE STENCIL GOES!!!

I used a pencil to mark where the stencil should line up and then I simply used a soapy washcloth to wipe off all the marks. It was really simple.

It took me ALL.DAY.LONG to stencil this wall – but it was so worth it and I love the outcome!
It really brightens up my kitchen and adds a lot of character – I just love it!
Like walk into the kitchen just to see it because it is so awesome –love it!

Amanda - that is stunning! I love it! I have never attempted to stencil anything in my life because with my luck it would look like a three year old did it. I am so inspired to do it now! It looks amazing! I would totally keep walking into my kitchen just to see it too. =)

The wall looks fantastic and was well worth the effort. I just stenciled one wall in my daughters room and it took a few days (between kids, time and paint drying). I bet it's changed how the room feels!

It turned out just fabulous! Love the idea of using a lighter shade of green instead of white. Looks so classy!
