I just want a vacuum that sucks…

without giving up my first born!!

vaccums copy

I would say that out of every single chore I do around my house – my favorite chore is vacuuming!
I love running the vacuum over the floor and seeing all the nasty stuff get sucked up and fill the canister.
Some people get grossed out over all the junk that fills up the canister – but for me … I love it!!
I love dumping it all out in the garbage – it’s a feeling of satisfaction!!
All the dirt and hair and food pieces – GONE!!! Love it!!

I vacuum all the time – sometimes I will vacuum a room two-three times a day – obsess much?
But other days I don’t vacuum at all – just so you know!! {wink!}

I just love a clean floor!! I hate when I clean and vacuum and walk back into our family room to find cracker crumbs from my kids – or husband! But I love to vacuum it up -

So now that you know my favorite chore – and what a freak I am…

You will be sad to hear that last week my vacuum broke -  the hose that leads from the brush to the canister cracked and broke. If I am being honest – it has been on it’s last leg for a while… I bought it when we installed carpet in our newly remodeled home four years ago and it was a champ!! And then somehow the little clip that holds it upright broke – so it would fall down all the time. I cannot tell you the number of times, I and my kids have been hit by the vacuum falling over. That right there should have been the kicker to get a new one! But then I vacuumed up some glass – and it just never seemed to work the same. I probably cut up all the internal parts – But I got out my air compressor and cleaned it all out and carried on -

WHY?

because vacuums cost so much money – and it’s a hard decision on which vacuum to buy! Hoover? Dyson? Bissel? Oreck?

My last vacuum was high scale Hoover – not a top of the line but not the bottom of the barrel either. When it broke I borrowed my parents Dyson – and my sister’s Bissel. I liked the Dyson more than the Bissel, but I don’t know if I liked it more than my Hoover – So I am coming to you guys -

What vacuum do you own? Do you love it? Do you hate it? Do you wish you would have forked out just a little bit more money for one a little bit better?? Is there a brand I should totally stay clear of?n Help me!! What vacuum should I buy?? I need clean floors!!

Little Man votes for "The Purple Dyson!" He knows more about vacuums than I do and prays for Dysons, Bissells, Sharks, and Steamers every night. :)

We bought a Rainbow vacuum a few years ago, and LOVE it! It's a little more on the spendy side, but I am SO glad we did it. Especially now that we have 2 dogs and 4 kids (the youngest of whom will be crawling soon). Highly recommend the Rainbow! And if you talk to a rep, ask them if they happen to have any reconditioned ones. That's how we got ours. :)

I have a really old Hoover. Bagged. It's about 12 years old or so. We really need a new one, it just doesn't suck like it used to. I do like bagged vacuums better than baggless though for sure. There aren't very many of them out there anymore though :( Not as many choices

I LOVE my Dyson - I bought a refurbished one 7 or 8 years ago and haven't looked back. At the time we had a black lab in the house, the Dyson finally picked up all that dog hair! Now I've got two kids in the house and I don't know what I'd do without a good vacuum.

I always end up going back to Hoover. With a bag.

Last year I decided to buy a "bargain" Eureka. Started out great. It was baggless and that seemed like such a good idea. Cleaning out the dirt cup was a pain. The filter needed replacing often and cost $16 apiece! Eventually (after about 9 months) I'd had enough! Replaced it with a middle of the road Hoover. I've been happy ever since! Good luck with your search for the perfect vacuum! :)

I have a Eureka that I got last summer from Walmart for about $100. Before that I also had a Eureka that we got for our wedding. It lasted 10 years. I do think there are better vacuums out there I've just never had one. I've used my mom's Dyson, and it got clogged up sucking up some little leaves in the house. There are a few things that I didn't like about her Dyson. Growing up we had a Rainbow vacuum, and it worked well, but I always hated having to dump the gross water out of it. I don't know if the Rainbows are the same now as they were 15-20 years ago.
I've used my SIL's Oreck before, and I really like it, but I only used it a couple of times. I think, if I had the money, and was looking for a new vacuum, I would probably by and Oreck. I've never used a Hoover. I've never used a Kirby, but I had a friend who LOVED hers. I'll stop rambling about vacuums now. Ha! :) Good Luck finding a good one.

I don't know if it is an option for you but my husband installed a whole house vac system in our house. I would give up my dishwasher before I'd give up my vac system! If you are handy they can be installed pretty easy and cost about the same as a good quality vacuum.

I have a dyson and I love it. Much better than the lousy $60 one we got for our wedding, whatever it was. I got my vacuum from Costco, which returns anything at any time. So that was a big selling point to me. I also like that my vacuum is bagless, and that the filter is washable. Makes it much cheaper.
I think the thing people expect out of a vacuum is that it can suck up anything and everything. I try to pick up the things that are bigger than a quarter, and then use the vacuum for everything else.
Good luck!

I use a Eureka, bagged, and it has been great. Have had it for I would say at least 5 years and I have been very happy with it. Since that stays downstairs, I keep the super old one (Kenmore) upstairs because dragging a vacuum up and down when I need it is such a pain... the old one is covered with colorful duck tape keeping the hose together, but it works so I can't complain.

I don't know tons about vacuums, but we have the Eureka Boss smart vac (a consumer reports best buy) and I've really liked it. I'm a big van of vacuuming too actually--we have replaced a lot of carpet with laminate wood, and I still vacuum it :)

(and totally unrelated--remember how I asked you about Kim? I ended up meeting her in the airport after we landed in Portland!!)

We bought the Kirby Sentria, and I love it. Just don't let them trick you into paying too much for it! We have a great experience with their customer service, and it has a 30 yr. warranty for any parts etc. Good Luck!

i have a dyson and LOVE IT!!! since it works on hard floors and carpets so well with a push of the button! i have never had a problem with it, i have had it for 3 years now. i scored a great deal at Target on it too!
my sis had an oreck and she swears by hers. she is a vacuum freak too! i mean that in the nicest way, btw!!!
good luck! i think its worth the money to buy a nice one, especially the way u use it a lot.

We had a Bissell, but it couldn't hold up with all of the dog hair. Now we have a shark, and I love it! (It's purple...I don't know what kind exactly).

I own the yellow Dyson and love it too. My only complaint would be that the brush will stop spinning and I have to kick it to get it going again.

I can completely relate to the satisfaction of seeing all that dirt and tossing it in the trash. I get the same thrill!

I'm also a little obsessive about my vacuum. So I can relate. My husband bought me a Dyson for Christmas in 2008 and I could NEVER go back to anything else. LOVE it.
